Weston’s Bread and Cake Factory
Regina, circa 1940
The W. Garfield Weston Foundation had its origins in 1959. It is named for Willard Garfield Weston ("Garfield Weston"), a Canadian who established bakery and other successful enterprises throughout Canada and in many other parts of the world.
An endowment from Garfield Weston, his wife, Reta Lila Weston, and their nine children supports the Foundation.
The founders believed that as the funds were generated through the hard work and success of Canadian businesses, the grants should be given in Canada for the benefit of Canadians.
It is the success of the George Weston and Loblaw companies, the dedication of their employees and the loyalty of their customers that ultimately enables the Foundation to fulfill its charitable mandate.
For four generations, The W. Garfield Weston Foundation has maintained a family tradition of helping charitable organizations to make a difference and enhance the quality of life for Canadians.
