About Us › Mandate

The early 1950s saw W. Garfield Weston
sponsor a series of tours for Canadian and
British boys and girls, in the hope of fostering
closer ties between the two countries.

The W. Garfield Weston Foundation is a Canadian charitable foundation committed to making grants in Canada for the benefit of Canadians.

Historically, the Foundation has made donations to Canadian charitable organizations reflecting a wide variety of urban and rural needs, from medical and nutritional research, to programs in the arts, education and environment. These grants have been distributed throughout all provinces and territories of Canada.

In recent years, the Foundation has become more proactive and narrowly focused in its grant making. The majority of its funds are now directed to specific organizations which undertake innovative work in the areas of education and environment. In addition to its principal ongoing commitments, the Foundation makes a number of trustee-initiated grants each year.

Due to the focused nature of its grant-making, the Foundation is not accepting applications at this time.
